Default Suggestion/Solution: Chat Spam

Hey all,

Not posted here much before, but I have been reading around and have come across many a player aggrivated by the amount of spam in the main areas of Tyria (ie, Ascalon City, Lion's Arch, etc.).
The suggestion leans on the idea of the ignore list, but would be a vast improvement on it. The problem with the ignore list is that you can just keep on adding people all the time because of the sheer amount of spammers that exist, without noticing much of a difference the next day when a whole load of new spammers you hadn't come across the day before start spamming.

My suggestion, albeit difficult to implement (maybe), would make this problem much easier. It goes along the line of an 'ignore counter'. Basically the improvement would be, you add a person to your personal ignore list and have a choice of adding a description of why you added that person (be it spamming in chat, drawing abusive/offensive material on the radar, abusive language, etc.) and it would be counted as 1 ignore for whoever was added to the list. If that same person that was put on the ignore list gets another set number of ignores from other players too with other (optional) descriptions of why, that person is then listed on a 'global' ignore list which would simply state how many ignores that person has been given from other players and the description of why. You can then have a choice yourself, before you even see that person spamming, add him to your ignore list.

What you would end up seeing is a list of people that have been ignored the most, the biggest offenders. A simple button to ignore all of the people who have been ignored by a number of people (say over 50) and add them all to your list, would make everyone's life a lot easier and the amount of spam in the main areas would decrease.

If this would be too hard to implement in the game itself, or too much effort from Anet's front, perhaps it could be done outside of the game and in a forum thread or something :-/ but it would of course be more effort for the people keeping that list up-to-date.

It's just a suggestion that crossed my mind. Any thoughts, anyone?

Thats an interesting idea there. So your saying if someone gets ignored enough, say 10 times. Then some one set up to ignore people with a 10 counter wont see messages from this guy? If this is the case I like it. An improvment though would be to block him from the main chat, and not nessisarly from trade or other chat windows.

Yeah that's it
And like you said, yes the player shouldn't be blocked from other chat windows, just the main areas.

It would also be a way of making spammers think twice about overkill chatting, because they probably don't want half of the GW community ignoring them
